RARE HAZE
Toronto’s Tearjerker just released their new album Rare and it’s one of the biggest and best treasure boxes full of fuzzy shoegaze gems you’ll ever find. The 9-track album stays consistent with its dreamy, lo-fi shoegaze approach and it’s done to absolute perfection. The way the fuzzy guitars accompany those impish and distinctly boyish vocals is nothing short of amazing as its hazy reverbed trails haunt the surrounding atmosphere with its heartbreaking somber undertones. “Solid Morning” by Tearjerker // Rare (2011)
And just like that, a late year entry into my favorite-albums-of-the-year list arrives. It’s been no secret that I’m a huge fan of the work that Tearjerker puts out there, but I was simply not prepared for how wonderful Rare sounded on the first listen. The second and third listens only further reinforced those feelings and now I’m onto obsessing over single tracks. The first of which happens to be the album closer, “Solid Morning”, and it’s a dust blown, western-dream-pop beauty that brings to mind Mojave 3 and Mazzy Star at their best. That’s right. At their best. Rare is that fucking good. You can grab it now for name-your-own-price at Bandcamp.

Tearjerker’s new album RARE is out now and it’s definitely one to check out. The first single off of it “So Dead” was a very telling sound that this LP would be filled with tons of goodies.
